CHRISC RWANDA YOUTH FOOTBALL LEAGUE
The project started in March 2009 as a pilot project for the Sports and Education program currently in Rwanda. 25 teams; 16 U12 Boys teams, 9 U16 Boys and 1 Girls’ team were registered to initiate the project. The league is unique inthe entire country, as it has never happened or been a league of such a kind in Rwanda and also the integration of HIV/AIDS and Life Skills into the project sports activities..... “And CHRISC is organizing a youth football league that brings youths and communities together, it keeps youths busy... displaying their talents for three quarter of a year and many talents are identified and nurtured in leadership, organizational development and sports”. It was then decided by CHRISC Rwanda management team, that YOUTH FOOTBALL LEAGUE be a yearly project because of its uniqueness in Rwanda.... as it continues to facilitate the development of the Sports and Education program in CHRISC Rwanda.
The youth football league is managed by an Events Committee headed by the Project Coordinator, Thomson Ndikuriyo who doubles up the Kigali District Coordinator. The committee has seven (7) persons with clear defined roles.
In 2010 the project took a progressive focus... with a committed committee in place, 27 registered teams, with fully equipped referees and a very organized schedule of matches and all activities.
The theme of the league is ‘’ Enhancing youth potentials through sports’’
This league has managed to achieve the objective of integrating educational components, i.e. HIV/AIDS education, Sexual Reproductive Health, Life Skills training and Devotions, into the league system, hence striving to the vision, which is seeing “Transformed and actively engaged youths in Rwanda”.
